ssimNoWe’ve all been there, at some point in our life being asked to sum yourself up in 5 words.

In all honesty, this was always a struggle for me when I was younger. I wanted to believe 100% in the words I would have chosen for myself, but I didn’t know if it was true. I would find myself hoping, but not knowing for sure. That was until I decided to become a Holistic Paediatric Sleep Consultant.

Let me explain this a bit more because it’s likely that you are here. After all, you and/or your baby is not sleeping well.

No sleep. Children keeping you awake, waking several times a night, wanting to feed during the night, and they won’t settle without you. You’re being pulled in all directions–but you need it to STOP now.

The great news is that by allowing me to guide and support you through this incredibly difficult time, we can succeed together. Believe me, I know exactly where you are because I have been there myself. As a holistic sleep expert in the UK, and all around the world, I want to share my story with you. You can read more about my philosophy and why I choose myself to be your family’s sleep consultant. Offering a no-cry gentle sleep training approach to your child’s sleep.

My Philosophy

I strongly believe that everyone deserves the right to a great night’s sleep. Adults, children, babies & families alike. It was in my quest to find the answer to our own children’s’ problems with sleep that I discovered the answers I was looking for. On both a personal and professional level.

All my programs are created from the basis of the strong belief that healthy sleep habits make for healthy people. Whether this is an infant, a child or an adult. A well-rested child is curious, energetic, happy, playful, and eager to learn. The same can be said of an adult, they will be productive, happy, healthy and effective in all they do.

My approach is a fundamental belief that infants, toddlers, children of whatever age and even some adults need to learn the skills to sleep well. Those of us who can sleep, all have our unique way of allowing this to happen. This is not the case for everyone. A lot more people than you would care to believe have issues with their sleep, and as adults tell me they have had these issues for as long as they can remember. We are taught to be stoic from a young age but that doesn’t always serve us best.

We need to learn our way of falling asleep. For some, this is quite simply harder than it is for others. My role is to help support adults, children or parents work through this process. Making it a whole lot easier for them over time by giving them the knowledge that leads to new skills. They will learn to allow them to sleep, stay sleeping for longer and eventually sleep through the night.

As well as the various and extensive training I have undertaken over the last few years. I have seen and read many of the books available out there that address sleep issues with varying techniques. Whether it be ‘crying it out’ or ‘constant reassurance’. Whilst I do agree that some of these methods can work for a few individual children. I am a strong believer that not one size fits all scenarios. This is the focus of my programs. I treat each child, adult or family as an individual case and the unique situation that they are.

The vast array of training allows me to be able to create sleep plans that are unique to that child. More importantly to me, accommodate the parenting style you have chosen. Adult sleep is the same. I access the whole picture, not just your sleep. We look at all areas of your life so we can have the best results for your sleep by addressing the areas which are causing the problems. Your sleep is only the symptom, not the cause.

The most important part for me is that the process ensures that you as a parent or as adults are happy with the approach so it will work at an optimum for your situation and requirements. This is possible in a variety of methods, no cry, gentle sleep methods.

My approach to improving your sleep is very simple:

I will give honest information about why sleep is so important to you and/or your child’s well-being. These will act as motivations for you to make these changes and help you stick with this until the desired results happen.

It is all in an easy-to-follow, step-by-step program that will allow you to make informed choices about which is the right approach for both you, and/or your child. What we do know is that everyone is different. Not one of us is the same. When it comes to your child nobody knows your child better than you do. I, therefore, encourage you to use your knowledge of both yourself and your child. To ensure the program is completely customized within their individually tailored sleep plan program.

We will be realistic in measuring success. By this I mean, No, you shouldn’t expect you or your child to sleep that uninterrupted 12 hours on the first night. It can happen, but it is few and far between so I will be honest with you throughout, telling you what you should expect along the way, what will happen and when this most likely will happen.

For parents with children who have sleeping issues.

Crying – let’s just deal with the elephant in the room: This is always one of the first questions parents ask me about. Do my programs involve “crying it out,” I feel it deserves to be addressed here and now?

Simply put NO. That said crying is simply the way your child’s will protest against any changes made. Therefore, when we make changes to their sleep habits, it is most likely to result in some protests. Otherwise, you would not be reading my page right now as you would have been able to make these changes yourself quite simply.

I must be honest right now and say that my program will most likely involve at least some amount of protest on the child’s part. This will be limited to whatever is most suitable for both you and your child but still allow the habit to be broken with the learning and development of new skills. The protests will be short-lived and (drawing on my child psychology experience) it will not be harmful in any way to either your child or yourself.  My preferred method involved no-cry gentle sleep teaching & coaching methods and I will always prefer to do this. I will however understand and respect your own level of parenting and work along side with your beliefs at all times.

Please understand that I will never ask you to leave your child to cry alone. Neither will I ask you to ignore their cries. This is simply against what I believe to be the best way for them to learn. The reason that the program is so effective is that it lets you develop a plan that you feel comfortable with, based on what you know about your child. We will support and nurture your child to learn at their own pace with love and guidance from you and myself. I also closely follow & recommend the Lullaby Trust with regards to safe sleeping practices – this is essential in all my programs that I create.

If you still have any questions at all about the philosophies that are behind my approach, please don’t hesitate to ask! I can be reached by email at Lisa@lisagargarosleep.co or by telephone at 07591251997.
